Dear Dad, Thank You

Because you don't get enough credit for everything you do.

Dear Dad, Thank You
Amanda Johnston

Hi dad, just a few things I've never really thanked you for:

Thank you for always being there for me.

No matter what, you never fail to always be there for me, and I know I can always count on you for that.

Thank you for not only telling me what I deserve, but constantly showing me too.

Since I was little, you have always made sure to tell me what I deserve when it comes to guys. But you didn't stop there, you have also made sure to show me what I deserve. From getting mom, sis, and I flowers for Valentine's Day to the late night drives to Walmart to get snacks, you always put us before yourself and always did anything you could to make sure we were taken care of and happy, just like any guy should do. I can honestly say that I don't know if I will ever find a guy that treats me the way you treat me or a guy that does the things you do for mom, sis, and I. (You set the bar pretty high.)

Thank you for always caring.

I will never forget growing up (and even now) and having you constantly asking me to text you when I get somewhere and when I'm leaving. Growing up, I used to think it was the most annoying thing ever, but now I realize it was you caring about me. I honestly don't know how I got so lucky to have a dad that cares about me as much as you do.

Thank you for always working so hard.

Thank you for always working your ass off so mom, sis, and I could have everything we ever needed and wanted. I really can't say thank you enough for always making sure sis and I (especially) could do everything we wanted to growing up and even now.

Thank you for putting up with my attitude.

Even when I yell at you (and say things I NEVER mean) you somehow always put up with my attitude, and I can honestly say I don't know how you do it, but thank you.

Thank you for always being my number one fan.

Thanks for always being my biggest support system in sports, school, and life in general. You're always the first person I think of and want to tell when something exciting happens. Thanks for always telling me you're proud of me and believing in me, it means more to me than you know.

Thank you for being the best dad I could ask for.

You have done so much for me and I know I can't say thank you enough to let you know just how much everything you do means to me. I am so beyond blessed to have a dad that will do anything to make his daughter happy. I don't know many girls who have dads like you that will literally drop whatever they are doing when their daughters need something. I want you to know that I am so thankful to have the relationship that I do with you and I would not change it for the world.

I love you so much Dad, thank you for everything.

P.S. I will always be your little girl (no matter how old I get.)

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
