Dear College Gals: 14 Reasons I'm Thankful For Ya'll
Kalyn Bowser

I remember finally graduating and throwing off our caps into the air during the fireworks that were fired off during some emotional time-of-our-lives song. Then immediately going to find my best friends through the hundreds of students. When we finally found each other, there were massive hugs and tears as we realized we had just closed a chapter in our lives together. As the graduation parties came along, things got even more real. We said our goodbyes as some of us went away for college, some got full-time jobs, and some even got married. I realized I was moving hours away from my very best friends and anyone I knew. I could no longer call them up and meet them at Starbucks on the same day. I couldn't make lunch plans or see them every day like I had for more than four years. As I drove down to college for orientation, it hit me hard. How am I ever going to make friends? Slash that, REALLY HOW AM I GONNA MAKE FRIENDS? Worse yet, what if I have to eat every meal alone?

Well, let's just say God provided some of the best girlfriends a girl has ever had during my freshman year. (Only a few of my beautiful friends are pictured above.) Ya'll deserve a thank you.

1. Thank you for the endless breakfast/lunch/dinner dates, eating alone is no fun.

2. Thank you for taking me to all your Greek events.

3. Thank you for the dance parties in the car.

4. Thank you for dealing with my moods.

5. Thank you for wiping my tears and giving the best hugs.

6. Thank you for sleepovers.

7. Thank you for taking fun little adventures with me.

8. Thank you for loving coffee as much as I do.

9. Thank you for helping me pass exams.

11. Thank you for loving me when I am hard to love.

12. Thank you for encouraging me.

13. Thank you for making me laugh til I cry.

14. Thank you for being you.

Thank you so much for being my family away from home. I could have never imagined I would be so close to you girls in such a small amount of time. Thank you for every laugh, every meal, every tear, and every moment we had this year. Much love college gals.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
