Your idea on waterparks most likely contains the words 'fun', 'vacation', 'relaxation', or 'normal weekend activity'. Very few people would include the words 'dangerous' or even 'deadly'. Sadly, this became the words for 10-year-old, Caleb Schwab, in 2016.

The name of the deadly ride was Verrückt - meaning "insane" in German - it was exactly that. Located at the Schlitterbahn Kansas City water park, the Verrückt is 168 feet and 7 inches - that's taller than Niagara Falls. It was said to take riders up to speeds of 70 miles per hour and have a 50-foot drop.

While this may seem like the ultimate adrenaline rush to an adrenaline junkie, the indictment says that the ride "violated nearly all aspects of the longstanding industry safety concerns."

Five people have been charged with either second-degree manslaughter, reckless second-degree manslaughter, or involuntary manslaughter according to CNN. Five people had a chance to see the ride's faults that had caused multiple lesser incidents in the past. Instead, the waterpark faces a $20 million in settlement to the Schwab family.

I had not heard about this story until the fall of 2017. However, hearing about the carelessness of the waterpark owners, I decided that I would not be spending any of my weekends there. I wouldn't want to spend money on something that the owners are careless with.

While I am sure the owners were not looking for a death on their hands, they were somewhat aware of the dangers of Verrück. For example, the specific tube that Schwab and two other women were riding in was known to go at a ridiculous speed and to go airborne at times.

It had even been taken off of the ride a few times before, only to be put back on quickly. With so many accidents already occurring on the ride, I would hope that any sane park owner would use common sense to close the ride until changes were made.

I hope that this incident causes the owners of the waterpark, and any other water/amusement park, take better consideration of their rides and safety checks.

Parks should not be a place that a family has to worry about losing a member, but a place to enjoy the time that they have together without worry.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
