The De-Stress Playlist

Sometimes you've just gotta sing along and dance it out.

The De-Stress Playlist

The last few weeks of a semester are always the most stressful. There's so much to do and so little time to do it in. While it feels like you should just power through all your work and ignore the potential ulcer forming in your stomach, sometimes what you really need is some me time.

Listening to music is one of the best ways to do that. Research has proven that music can help with relaxation and stress management. I've personally found that I use music to my advantage when I'm too stressed to function by jamming out to my de-stress playlist.

I'm not 100 percent sure if everyone has one of these, but I live by mine. I make a new one every semester. It's a playlist that you use when everything in your life is in shambles and you need 30 or 40 minutes to flail around your room and sing out loud (even if your voice sounds like a dying cat). De-stressing is truly a full-body experience and needs an outlet like this when all of your other secret weapons for staying sane have run out.

So here's a playlist inspired by stress and sleep-deprivation. Feel free to check it out on Spotify.

1. "Under Pressure" by David Bowie, Queen

With all the pressure you've been under this semester, you deserve to duet with David Bowie.

2. "Help!" by The Beatles

You've wanted to scream this at your Econ professor for the last three lectures, but we all know you're better than that. Sing it out now.

3. "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor

Gloria gets it, but she knows you'll survive. You've got this.

4. "Shake It Out" by Florence + The Machine

It's time to start letting it all go. The long nights, the papers, the coffee stains on said papers. Forget them all. Just shake it out.

5. "All The Small Things" by blink-182

Instead of banging your head against a wall over all the small stuff, headbang to this.

6. "All Star" by Smash Mouth

When you sing this song, remember that Smash Mouth thinks you're an All-Star. That's pretty awesome.

7. "Shut Up and Dance" by Walk the Moon

The title says it all. Take a few minutes to shut up and dance!

8. "Mr. Brightside" by The Killers

This one's just really fun to yell.

9. "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen

Do you really have a solid playlist if "Bohemian Rhapsody" isn't on it?

10. "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey

You're getting close to the end of the playlist and a small bit of self-doubt is bubbling to the surface again. Don't stop believing!

11. "Be OK" by Ingrid Michaelson

This song is the spirit animal of every college student in their last weeks of the semester.

12. "Wake Me Up" by Avicii

Because after taking the 45 minutes it'll take to jam out to this playlist, you might have to pull an all-nighter for that test you have tomorrow—but it was worth it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
