For those of you who know me, you know that I love America. The Fourth of July is my favorite holiday, I own multiple "'Merica" themed items, and often wear a plethora of red, white and blue. Basically, I'm talking love in all caps. And recently, I was given the opportunity to travel to the capital of this great country, Washington D.C. Of course, I jumped at the chance. Honestly, I was mostly excited to get pictures in front of all the monuments and bask in American pride. And then I could check D.C. off my travel bucket list (and maybe post some good Instagrams). But what awaited me in D.C. was far more than that and led me to believe I had found the most amazing place on Earth.
D.C. has the most amazing energy. Not only is it seeped in history and American pride, it is truly a place of purpose. People come to D.C. to change the country, to get involved in making history. From the architecture to the hustle and bustle of the city, everything is intentional. The whole city was constructed to represent America and to stand at the helm of the country.
I saw all of the D.C. classics, like the Washington monument and the Constitution, and also a few surprises, like the American flag that inspired the national anthem. I learned how to ride the metro (or at least how to look like I knew how). I ate some pretty good food and took some pretty beautiful pictures. The entire four days went by extremely fast, and before I knew it I was boarding a plane home. I was exhausted and unbelievably happy, in a sort of daze from the magic of the city. And the only thing I had to say was: when can I go back?
Sorry Disneyland, but D.C. happens to be the most magical place on Earth.
