Now that we're grown-ups, summer break is way different from what it used to be. Now, instead of checking out brochures from different summer camps, we are frantically filling out college applications, brushing up on interview etiquette, and updating our resumes. But that doesn't mean we don't deserve to have our own summer experiences to remember, even if we're operating on a lower budget and shorter time frame!

1. King's Island, Ohio

2. Newfields, Indiana

What was once called the Indianapolis Museum of Art is a great way to spend a peaceful day enjoying art, nature, and finding those Insta-worthy pictures. Featuring 100 acres full of art that practically comes to life in the middle of urban Indy, it's no wonder that these sprawling sculptures were the inspiration for John Green in his famous novel "The Fault in Our Stars."

3. Hiking Red River Gorge, Kentucky

You don't have to travel all the way to Mount Everest or Mount Kilimanjaro anymore to climb a mountain! Just head over to Red River Gorge and you can rock climb there, all in the space of one day!

4. Mall of America, Minnesota

In my mind, there is no better combination than shopping AND amusement parks! So take a day to enjoy everything that this famous shopping center has to offer!

5. Kayak to Turnip Rock, Michigan

Even though it's about a bit strenuous, this seven-mile round trip by kayak is a must-see. For water lovers, nature lovers, and fitness fanatics, there is no better combination of gorgeous natural sites and exercise!

6. Zion National Park, Utah

This park has a rich history of different cultures, plants, and places that are sure to provide a melting pot of experiences that people will enjoy. If you're a history enthusiast or a nature aficionado it's worth checking out one day this summer!

7. Boulder City, Nevada

One Nevada local recommends thrift-shopping and ice cream eating if you take a few hours to visit this city! It's a small town, but boasts fantastic sites like the Hoover Dam!

8. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

9. Visit Downtown Fairhope, Alabama

This is a perfect, quaint, small town full of antique stores, 'mom and pop' shops, and outdoor markets. If you're looking for a chill day out, walking around town and shopping local, then look no further than Fairhope!
