Dating In New York City

Home of Instagram's finest “hot guys reading” and “hot guys on the subway,” dating in New York City is incredibly hard. Although there may be a plethora of hot males there's a serious shortage of communication and genuine interest. Funny right? In a city flanked with people, one would think it's easy to meet and talk to others. But that's not the case at all. Packed into a subway car is the one time you will ever be so close to someone, but you will never walk away with getting his or her number. Trust me when I tell you, you won't even make eye contact. It is very true that New York is a breeding ground for some of the hottest guys, but they simply aren’t approachable for many reasons.

But why is it so hard to snag a boyfriend if there are endless possibilities? It’s pretty simple if you walk down the city streets every day. Everyone is on their own, we find peace within our solitude and if there ever comes a time in which our solitude is interrupted we become angry, very angry. There’s not a single time you will catch me riding the subway without my earphones in and my music loud enough to block out the sounds of the subway. It’s clear that I'm setting myself up to be left alone, no hot guy on the subway is daring enough to approach a girl with a straight face jamming to Justin Bieber. It is what it is, I’ll be alone forever because of my urge for peace in New York City.

Not only do we set ourselves up for solitude but we also already know people. Why would we even bother to approach a complete stranger if our friends have connections to other singles? By relying on our friends to do the matchmaking for us, it saves us the time and embarrassment of being let down by a stranger. If we already know people, we definitely don't go out of our way to meet people therefore if one person doesn't do it then the rest of us are left waiting.

We can’t forget that sometimes the cute ones are taken- they’re taken quickly. If there’s a hot single guy on the line at Shake Shack making conversation with some woman, you better believe he’ll be off the market very soon. Why is that? Because we’re greedy and we snag the hot ones first, whether he has a lame personality or not, we’ll take it. If he has a body like Tim Tebow and a smile like Chace Crawford, he most likely isn't single or ready to mingle.

If you thought moving to New York City and going out on dates every weekend was going to come naturally, you were very mistaken. If you really want to meet people you have to do the unthinkable, and go out of your way. Make a tinder or get drunk at a bar to give you enough courage to talk to the hot guys; that’s how it’s done, getting out of your comfort zone.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
