Detroit rapper Danny Brown has returned with his full-length LP since 2013. His new album, "Atrocity Exhibition," was looked to be one of the most anticipated albums of the year.
In 2013, it was evident that Danny Brown had talent and he executed his project, "Old" to perfectly. His project before that was titled, "XXX" and some look at as even better than "Old." With this new project, it seems Danny has found his passion for lyricism again like he did in "XXX," he came on this new album with a lot to say and it was very well done.
This album sounds and feels a lot like an XXX part 2. Danny uses his often unorthodox instrumentals as a way for him to tell his stories about growing up and getting involved with drugs at a young age in Detroit.
When it comes to Danny Brown, some are immediately turned off by his high pitched voice. But, in hip hop, sometimes your voice is what can make you. With Danny, his voice is just one of the many things that make him such a unique artist. He beautifully crafts his words to make sure the flow is perfect and his lyrics will make you feel what he felt during these times.
With "Atrocity Exhibition," Danny Brown is at his best. He did not seek many features besides a few. Those few just happened to be some of the best rappers out today with Kendrick Lamar, Earl Sweatshirt, and Ab-Soul. The song that they are all featured on is called, "Really Doe," and could be looked at as one of the best hip hop songs in a very long time. The fact that these four incredible voices came onto one track is a hip-hop heads dream come true. The other features on this project are very well used. Overall, he used just the right amount of features and really let his own voice carry the project.
The instrumentals on this album are some of the best of the year. He did not take the route to make club records like he did with "Old." The sounds on this thing are very eerie and smooth. The sounds help represent what he actually went through while selling drugs.
As far as lyricism, this man seems to be one of the best in the game right now. He is great at blending these funny and goofy lyrics in with the very serious and aggressive lyrics. Overall, the lyricism on this project is some of his best yet.
This project did not disappoint at all. Everything about it was great and very much lived up to the hype. Danny Brown has seemed to be on track to have a potential hip-hop album of the year,
Rate: 9/10
