The Butterfly Project is a development that can aid people who self- harm to resist the urges. A butterfly is drawn in the place/s where the individual self-harms and they can use the butterfly to represent someone they love, then when they feel the need to self-harm they can look at the butterfly and try to resist so that they do not harm the butterfly.

For my friend:
A little girl reached out to me though she’d never seen me before,
To her it was more comforting than what was behind her own front door.
Her days consumed with torment, her nights are even worse,
The monsters are deeply depraved, immoral, and perverse.
The leader treats her like a stranger though she knows him well,
For he is only down the hall, and warns her not to tell.
To them she’s but an object, in a sickening little game,
A game that forced a little girl to never be the same.
The things she had to suffer through were well beyond her years,
And yet they played relentlessly, laughing at her tears.
To guide her through her torment her friends come into play,
In her mind her friends are real, and make her feel okay.
She feels like she is screaming and no one can hear a sound,
So they help to hide the little girl when monsters come around.
Standing on the front lines are the dominant and strong,
The others appear when she's by herself, crying all night long.
They step in and bear the trauma for she can’t do it alone,
The five of them take their turns, and make their presence known.
Her world is broken, as is her spirit and willingness to live,
They’ve taken every ounce of her, there’s no more she can give.
She’s trapped inside a nightmare and fears for every day,
She grievously turns to herself to cut the pain away.
For the moment she’s in control and lets the blood run on,
The butterflies cut piece by piece are now completely gone.
