California State University, Fresno has been taking up the top spots in many prestigious lists recently. CSU Fresno was no.17 on Washington Monthly top universities. It was the only university in the CSU system to make it into the top 30, with Washington monthly commending the graduation rate and the price students pay after scholarships/grants are dispersed, is one of the lowest in the nation. CSU Fresno was also ranked 53 out of 711 schools in Money magazine's "Best Colleges for your Money" list.
With these rankings in mind, here are some other reasons why I, a CSU Fresno student, am not surprised that the school has made top of these lists. For one, the cost of attending this school is one of the lowest in the CSU system. Also, from personal experience, the amount of financial aid dispersed, based on a student's financial need, is lower than I expected.
This was a big deciding factor for me when deciding whether to attend a local college or attend a university out of the area. There is also no compromise when it comes to cost. Many of the professors and faculty I've encountered ensure that every student has a chance for success. Most of the professors are very knowledgeable in their subjects, and tailor their courses to what works best for their students.
There are also many resources for students on campus that are in any type of need. For example, there is a student cupboard that allows students to fill up a grocery bag full of food items they need for a day, for however many people are in their household, for free. There is also many resources for first generation, low income students, as well as services for students with disabilities. No matter the need, CSU Fresno has the resource to ensure each of their students success on their path to a degree.
