Do you believe felons and criminals deserve to be in the workplace?
I do, I believe if you have not killed anyone and you had a setback in life you deserve all the chances to make it right again. They did their time, they are now downgraded to the scum of the planet because they went to jail or prison? That doesn't seem right. A lot of people in the system have trades, had jobs, were doing something to get by. We have all had that struggle where the money wasn't paying for everything and they needed a little extra. If you say you have not had that struggle AT ONE POINT, you are lying to yourself. Many people in and out of the system go back because they are either thrown back into the lifestyle or they couldn't provide for their families or themselves unless they did what they were doing. I was so blessed to work for a restaurant with the head chef I had, we had a felon working saute and he was the greatest saute cook we had; we had a past drug dealer working expo and orders flew out that kitchen. You can not judge a person by its cover because you have not lived their life.
I want to open a bakery, what if a potential applicant comes to me and they have a record with the cops but wants to better themselves? Who am I to turn them away? With a society who looks down on them, they need that one person to look at them and say "I'm here for you." I told so many people I wanted and was willing to fire criminals, and they look at me and ask "What if you get robbed and stuff?" I believe if I get robbed and someone in my store is true to his word he would follow protocol.
In a society so quick to judge, do you really know your neighbor?
