For those that are not criminal justice majors, criminal justice is a wonderful major to study and it covers all the topics that have to do with how crimes are committed, arrests made, charges given, etc.
You love every crime show out there!
For many of us studying criminal justice our love for all things, criminal related came from our love of watching crime shows and still do. One crime show I especially love is "Criminal Minds," there is as well a new crime show that is around a year old and it is called "Mind Hunters." If you are a criminal justice major I would highly recommend watching this show, even my professor encouraged his students to watch and learn from it.
You hate when people say, "if I commit a crime I know who to go to in the future!"
Everyone seems to think that since I am a criminal justice major that they can turn to me when or if they commit a crime in the future. Yet, I am not certain as to why that is.
You get annoyed when people think that all criminal justice majors want to be cops or go to law school after college.
Working in law enforcement can mean more than just becoming a police officer, for instance, I would like to work either in the Federal Bureau of Investigations or the U.S. Marshals. A lot of individuals that are studying criminal justice want to work at some level of law enforcement others have criminal justice as a second major for a bigger major of theirs and having the knowledge of our legal system and criminal justice fields will better them in their other job goals.
You find serial killers interesting!
Learning about serial killers, especially how and why they committed their crimes is fascinating to you. Tons of your searches on google have to do with different killers. Honestly, learning about the minds of killers was my favorite topic in criminal justice!
You want to make a difference in the world and help individuals.
The main reason you are most likely wanting to go into the field of criminal justice is to help others and hopefully make a difference in the world. No matter how big or small your job within law enforcement is helping to better the world and protect your community/country.
Getting mad when people think that your major is easy.
When people think that taking criminal justice as a major is super easy. Clearly they have not taken any test within that field or they would know otherwise.
You find going to the court house, jails, prisons, police stations, etc. exciting!
Getting firsthand knowledge of jobs and workplaces within the field of criminal justice is exciting and educational. Whether you will be working within a prison or down at the courthouse having that experience beforehand can be extremely beneficial.
Thinking that you could get away without having to ever do math again, but then you find out about statistics.
If you are like me you more than likely hate math with a burning passion, I never thought that in the world of criminal justice would I need math unless I went into forensics or other crime scene analysis units, but I was wrong! Statistics is a requirement for any criminal justice major and is useful to better policing and the solving of crimes by being able to analysis criminal date etc.
You are the mediator within your friend group.
All your friends seem to come to you to solve any conflicts that arise within their individual life's or within the friend group. This has always been the case for me!
Not afraid to talk to cops or any other law enforcement workers!
Some people are scared to go up to police officers and find it strange and not normal that I go up to law enforcement workers and strike up a conversation will them. Criminal justice majors love to brag about their major and let everyone know that is what they are going to college to study.
I promise you it is more than just liking CSI or one of the long-running shows, being a criminal justice major is very interesting and if you are up to try something new I recommend taking an intro class!
