So, this year seems to be the year of Enlightenment through music. I will say that it is quite possible that I have come across artists who are trying to send a message through their music. I will say that the two yes, I said two artists have come a long way and I feel that they are sending a very important message that we should read into.
Important messages are being given through deep verses spoken over an unimaginable beat, I mean you’ll be amazed. Now I will inform, of course, the videos may seem controversial to some, but I will say this, please watch.
1. This Is America- Childish Gambino
“This is America, don’t catch you slippin up, don’t catch you slippin up, This is America, Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino speaks as he is genius in the way that he presents his new video, “This is America”. Glover seems to have had enough as he appears very nonchalantly into the first forty-one seconds into the video and begins to dance, but his facial expressions are the ones to watch.
Very controversial to some but I feel Glover has created an aesthetic video so genius that well, you just must watch it. The video is speaking many volumes and truths about what is going on in society today. In my opinion, this video is not to be taken surface deep and is to be privately understood but raise full awareness to the ones who are watching.
2. J. Cole - ATM
Well, as you can see from his album cover J.Cole is turning some heads with his newest music that he has blessed us with. Dressed as the figure on the front of his newest album, J. Cole appears to be riding through the sky as this guy with children possessed, eyes bugged out reaching out for the dollar that he is trailing behind them making sure that they follow.
Being very creative and highly intense, J.Cole is speaking truths on ATM, I do believe that this talented artist has had time to come a long way and mature. And, Mr. Cole seems to be showing his maturity and wisdom through this trending video. In “ATM”, Cole speaks of the desire to follow and chase the almighty dollar and what it brings.
Very brilliant and creative way to bring to light some of the materialistic things that people fall in love with and follow today. In the end we see that he sends the message to choose wisely, and we can see how he feels about money. Overall the message is very clear that money is not everything and is all but good.
