Georgia fell to LSU Saturday night by a score of 83-79 in Stegeman Coliseum.
This game followed the controversial comments that Georgia's head coach made after the crushing defeat at the hands of the Ole Miss Rebels.
In this post-game press conference, Crean said "It's all on me, because I'm the one who decided to keep these guys."
By "keep these guys," he means honoring their scholarships at the beginning of the year after the coaching turnaround.
Whenever there is a coaching change for an NCAA program, the new coach has the option to honor all of the returning and incoming players' scholarships. Crean did that. After his comments though, it seems he is having second thoughts about his decision to do so.
He did manage to lose one important commitment to Kentucky. Ashton Hagans de-commited from Georgia following the news that the program would move on from former coach Mark Fox.
Hagans, consequently, came back to torch the Bulldogs when Kentucky paid a visit to stegeman coliseum earlier in the year. Hagans scored 23 points on 50 percent shooting. He added 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals.
After a string of bad SEC losses, Georgia suffered another tough one against a solidly ranked opponent in LSU.
Georgia made a few notable comebacks within the game after falling behind in multiple spots. The Bulldogs had taken the lead late in the game before Nicolas Claxton was called for his fourth foul, subsequently sending him to the bench. With Claxton off the floor, LSU was able to use a size advantage to snatch the lead right back.
LSU, being one of the best free-throw shooting teams in the nation, drew Georgia into the bonus and salted the game away at the free throw line.
Coming off three straight double-digit losses, this game was still a welcome sight for competition-starved Georgia fans. Coach Crean was much happier with the effort that the Bulldogs displayed in this contest despite the outcome.
Crean knows his players are better than their record shows. He said, "I tell the kids all the time that I believe in them and if I didn't they wouldn't be here."
Especially with the recent 5-star commitment of Anthony Edwards, coach knows that the future is pointing up but he still hopes to turn things around this season. Finishing on a high note certainly is not out of the realm of possibility.
