How to Stay Sane During the COVID-19 Crisis

I had a horrible day yesterday while I was moving out all my stuff from my dorm. There were so many people, it was crowded, there was way too much stuff to move out from my dorm and so little time. Obviously, there is enough time, but the growing anxiety in my mind makes it harder to focus and so, a lot of time is wasted on panicking. I didn't know what to do and there was a time limit so I found myself rushing more and trying to fit in everything in the trunk and the backseat of the car. Eventually, I stumbled upon a serious panic attack that got me worried about what's to come with this COVID-19 crisis.

Health should be the most important thing and it has always been the most important thing for many of us. But during a time such as this, where being healthy is absolutely essential, I find myself tripping on rocks and glass just to make sure my mental health is on track. There is too much going on in this world and so, I sometimes have a difficult time trying to take everything in and reminding myself that it will be okay. Mental health is very crucial to keep in check and so, I find myself coming up with ways to relax my mind and not freak out over the littlest things. Here are some ways to cope if you are also struggling with your mental health during this time of crisis:

Take a walk- I know this might sound really cliche, but this actually does work pretty well. Especially if someone is into exercising and working out, this can be very helpful and event enjoyable. Walking helps people get more Vitamin D, which is helpful for depression and walking/exercising helps release happy hormones such as endorphin or serotonin.

Use a calendar- It really helps to stay organized during a time such as this, where everything and everyone is hectic. Simply jotting down what you're going to do for that day helps keep things neat and in line. You can order calendars from online or make one yourself and decorate it!

Bake- Whether you're making baked goods for yourself or for others, baking really helps relax the soul and it is a good hobby that can take your mind off of things. Especially if you like eating sweets, you're definitely in for a treat, once you're finished!

Taking Bubble Baths- Bubble baths are magical. They are the best after having a rough day! Once you're in the steaming water and foamy bubbles, you are bound to feel really calm and comfortable. I remember I used to take bubble baths all the time after I cried and I would feel so different as if I'm a whole new person, when I came out of the tub.

It may not be easy to stay sane during this crisis, but the least we can do is to make sure we are trying to maintain our mental health. There's too much going on and too much to take in. The least we can do is to try and make sure we don't lose our mind.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
