Covergirl, one of the most popular makeup brands in the country, announced on Monday their new spokesmodel. In the past they have features Katy Perry, Pink, and Zendaya -- all strong, beautiful female celebrities. But this time, they changed it up in a big way.
They have picked James Charles, a high school senior who became internet famous after re-doing his senior portrait when his highlighter didn't pop in the first shot. And yes, you read that right -- a boy!
James started experimenting with makeup just one year ago to "inspire others and as an artistic outlet to challenge himself creatively," and made his Instagram soon after. In that short year, he has amassed over 650,000 followers. (And you all should go check his Instagram out, because honestly, he does makeup better then I could ever, in my wildest dreams. Boys got skills.)
Covergirl decided to approach him, specifically for their new mascara, "So Lashy". The mascara is supposedly able to work on every lash type to make them appear thicker and longer. According to Huffington Post, Covergirl wanted James to be their news spokesmodel because, "All of our CoverGirls are role models and boundary-breakers, fearlessly expressing themselves, standing up for what they believe, and redefining what it means to be beautiful. James Charles is no exception. One year ago, he boldly chose to launch his Instagram to the world, using transformative, dynamic makeup looks to showcase the many facets of his personality, serving as an inspiration to anyone who might have been afraid to do the same.”
In his Instagram post announcing the news, James said "I truly hope that this shows that anyone and everyone can wear makeup and can do anything if you work hard."
In addition to being super skilled, hardworking and awesome, James also imparted some beauty advice to his dear followers.
"When you’re applying your highlighter, spritz your brush with water before you dip it into your highlighter. It will be super-bright and magnetic. You will be blinding people left and right."
Congratulations James!
