When Couples Call Each Other 'Babe' I Do Everything In My Power Not To Gag

Please call me by my name or some variation of my name.

When Couples Call Each Other 'Babe' I Do Everything In My Power Not To Gag

Babe. Honey. Sweetie. Bae. Daddy. Sugar. Baby.

I can't stand when couples are sitting in a restaurant, bar, park, or any public place and they start or end every sentence with "Babe."

"Babe, what are you going to get?"

"I don't know Babe. I think maybe a sandwich."

"Oh, that sounds really good Babe."

"How about you Babe? This wrap looks really good, doesn't it Babe?"

I don't find these "cute" nicknames cute; they're actually a pretty big turn-off. It is super annoying for those of outside of the relationship. Using the nicknames is similar to boasting the fact that they have a significant other. Think of the same conversation like this:

"Mary, what are you going to get?"

"I don't know John. I think maybe a sandwich."

"Oh, that sounds really good Mary."

"What about you John? This wrap looks really good, doesn't it John?"

When you swap out the pet names for your real names, it sounds a little quirky. This isn't how you would usually speak to someone.

Instead, talk to me in an age-appropriate manner. This may be my inner-Grandma coming out, but I'd like to have conversations about what we're both currently doing in life. I'd rather spend my time talking with my boyfriend about our days at work, our favorite hockey team (hopefully!), or talk life in general. This is much more interesting than seeing who can use "Babe" the most in a sentence.

I don't think I'm any less of a loving person because I don't like pet names. I think I am more of a sensible person. I don't find the "baby-talk" attractive. I just don't like it. Some ladies don't like getting flowers or chocolate. I don't like pet names or baby-talk.

I get it. Pet names and nicknames arise from situations in the relationship. However, if you find yourself using them multiple times in a short span of time, please consider leaving the name out every once in a while.

Also! General PSA/rant:

PLEASE STOP CALLING YOUR BOYFRIENDS "DADDY!" It is gross and unnecessary.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
