A Country Divided

The love for our political parties will fail this country.

Many would say that the 2016 presidential election is the most important in a generation, I tend to agree. However, it seems that the majority of my peers are still unwilling to educate themselves on any sort of political view or policy and the few that do, attach themselves to a party and refuse to waiver. It is that lack of education and flexibility that might cause the fall of the world's greatest superpower, the United States of America.

There has always been some sort of tension between any and every political party especially, Democrats and Republicans. However, it seems that a little bit of tension and ideological differences has turned into pure unadulterated hatred. The hatred between the two parties seems to have gotten so extreme and so vial that people are willing to spew hatred toward even their closest friends and family. As society, we have grown into this almost gang-like mentality when it comes to our politics. We defend our party leaders until we are blue in the face, no matter how crazy they might sound. We look at anyone who has different ideas than we do as the enemy.

This hostility is what I believe causes many to stay out of politics all together. The Millennial generation just doesn't want to be subjected to hatred and anger, especially, when it might be about information or issues they might not fully understand. Millennials live and breathe social media, it is where they get their news, it's how they keep up on the most relevant information including, politics. But, when the majority of political content displayed while scrolling down their newsfeed is biased, hate-filled opinions they fail to know the true facts or they don't express their own thoughts out of fear of social media backlash.

The fact of the matter is, just because someone might have a different political view than you, doesn't mean they are a bad person. It doesn't mean that they are dumb or naïve, it just means that they have a difference of opinion. So, we should stop vilifying people who support Donald Trump and we should stop calling people lazy freeloaders if they support Bernie Sanders. Politics should not be a conversation you are afraid to have. They should be a platform for deep and intelligent discussion, which gets you to think about what you truly stand for. When we are willing to reach across the aisle and collaborate as a nation, that is when America truly will be great again.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
