Convention season is right around the corner. You may be busy working on your cosplays (or ordering them) or making travel plans to get to each con. But what kind of cosplays are you expecting to see once you get there? Every year, there are usually one or two series that dominate the convention floor. Last year saw a lot of "Attack on Titan," "Kill la Kill" and "Tokyo Ghoul." So what will it be this year? Here are some possibilities.
"One-Punch Man"
There’s a web comic, a manga, an anime, you name it – "One-Punch Man" is everywhere (not that anyone is really complaining about it). "One-Punch" is very popular right now, and even if it isn’t the most cosplayed series at whichever con, it’ll definitely have a strong presence there. The cosplays are pretty simple for the most part, so most characters will be accessible to even the newest beginners. We all know at least one person who watches and is really into the series. The photoshoots should be interesting.
"Mob Psycho 100"
Speaking of which, 2016 will see the premiere of another anime from "One-Punch" creator, One. Given "One-Punch"'s popularity, there is some hype to be felt about this new anime. There’s no doubt that this series has the potential to be popular as well – the real question is whether or not it’ll be as good as "One-Punch." Even if it's not, it sounds like a good series that would be worth cosplaying from. This cosplay trend may start off slowly; there isn’t an exact release date for the anime yet, but once the series premieres it should pick up more steam.
"Fire Emblem"
"Fire Emblem" is hot right now with the release of "Fire Emblem: Fates," as well as the release of the Corrin DLC for "Smash 4." Because they have both male and female forms – as well as the ability to turn into a dragon – Corrin has a lot of good cosplay options to explore. While Corrin in particular has a high probability of appearing at cons this year, any "Fire Emblem" character who appears in "Smash Bros." is also fair game, as always. "Smash" aside, we may also see a handful of Corrin’s family members from both "Birthright" and "Conquest."
"Deadpool"
As if we don’t already see enough Deadpool cosplayers at every single con we go to, the release (and success) of the "Deadpool"’ movie will make that number surge for sure. Expect the antics of these cosplayers to be amped up times 10 as they try to replicate the funniest parts of the film (there’s plenty of material to pick from) and once again compete to be the best Deadpool. While Deadpool crossover cosplays are common (check out 16 Of the Best Deadpool Crossover Cosplays), this year we may see a lot more classic Deadpools inspired by the movie.
What cosplays are you expecting to see a lot of at this year’s conventions? What are you hoping to see? Tell us in the comments!
