Have you ever been sitting down with someone and that horrible awkward silence takes over despite efforts on both parts? We've all been there. Sometimes people are just hard to hold a conversation with. Whether that's the case for you, or you're looking to add some variety to your life, here are some conversation starters to give a shot at.

1. Can anything ever really be considered true or false or is everything subjective?

2. What if when we die the "light at the end of the tunnel" is just you being reborn?

3. How do we know that we're not living in a computer simulation?

4. Will there ever be a time when robots (or maybe another species) are treated as equals with humans?

5. Would you rather live another 10 years in good health and full mobility or another 40 years in deteriorating health and limited mobility?

6. Is crying a sign of strength or weakness?

7. Is being a parent a privilege or a chore?

8. What makes you uniquely you?

9. What are you holding on to that you need to let go of?

10. Everyone has the same 24 hours, why is someone able to do so much more with it than others?

11. If death gave you 10 more years to live but you would have to be completely disconnected from your family, would you make the trade?

12. Are you trying to be better than everyone around you, or better than the person you were yesterday?

13. Should high-risk individuals be jailed before committing a crime?

14. What is worse: failing or not trying in the first place?

15. What would you change about this world? What wouldn't you change?

16. What is the single most important issue the world needs to address?

17. What event in your life shaped you the most?

18. How do you know your beliefs are true?

19. Does everyone have a purpose in life? How do you know? What is your purpose?

20. If nobody was there to witness it, did it even happen?

21. If you could live forever, what would you do?

22. Will there ever be a time when there is no war?

23. How old would you be if you didn't know how old you are?

24. Would you rather lose all of your memories or never be able to make new ones?

25. Is it possible to know the truth without challenging it first?

26. At what time in your life have you felt most passionate and alive?

27. What would you do differently if you knew nobody would judge you?

Not only will these conversation starters bring a little more light to your day to day conversations, but they'll also make those wheels in your head turn a little extra while you ponder the possibilities.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
