The Common Denominator Is You

Sitting and thinking about the past events of this past holiday has me thinking. We have fallen so far from the original purpose of Christmas. I asked my seven-year-old brother what he thought Christmas was all about and he said he didn’t know. He just thinks that it is a random day of the year where everyone gives each other presents.

I feel that with this past year our belief of the Christian faith is being shadowed over by the agenda of others. No longer are we allowed to pray in school. No longer are we allowed to even tell people, "Merry Christmas." We have to say, "Happy Holidays."

People would like to blame the government, but they are just doing what they think they should do from popular vote on the people that they represent. Wake up, America. We are the ones to blame for how bad this economy is. We are crumbling the very foundations that this great country was built on.

We continue to give power to people that are destroying the very thing that our Founding Fathers gave their lives to make. We need to take our power back from those who have taken it from us.

Our society has made horrible acts towards future generations. It has slaughtered millions of the unborn, and taken the name of Jesus away from the schools. Now it is as if everyone is walking on egg shells.

You can’t say or do anything anymore without offending someone. We as a nation need to take back our power. I am tired of not being able to say or do the things that I want because the choices of our nation want to make others of another nation feel at home.

This is not their country! If they are so offended by the things we do here they can leave. We have the freedom of speech! If I want to say Merry Christmas to someone I am going to. If I want to pray in public or in school I am going to.

If you don’t like it don’t look. Quit trying to change the way others live so you can live the way you want to. News flash: the world does not revolve around you.

If you don’t like it, leave, no one is stopping you. Better yet, if something offends you just keep moving on with your life. Odds are that person is offended by something that another person is doing, but the difference they aren’t suing people or trying to change laws that were put in place over two hundred years ago.

People of today are fighting like children without a parents intervention. I fear that in the coming years the whole of society is going to be living in anarchy. We have the choice to stop this, but we are hiding behind our computer screens and lawyers.

Go out of your comfort zone for a change. Stop screwing up people’s lives. After all, there is only one common denominator and that’s you.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
