I’m sitting here thinking of the things I want for Christmas this year. Nothing really big seems to come to mind. I could mention the usual: peace on Earth, goodwill to men, health for my family and friends. Christmas should be a time of giving and not receiving. This year everyone is asking me what I want for Christmas. I want to be surrounded by family. I’d like to find love or have love find me. Would be nice if he was under that tree for me. But honestly, I want a rocking good playlist. This week I want to look at my favorite contemporary Christmas songs.
As I said, I don’t want a lot for Christmas. In fact, there may just be one thing I think I need. Too cheesy? Hey, it’s the holidays so I’m gonna finish it out here…All I want for Christmas is you.
There are a lot of great Christmas songs both traditional and more contemporary. Here is a list of 10 my favorite contemporary Christmas songs.
To kick things off:
1. All I Want for Christmas is You by Mariah Carey.
This one means a lot to me this year. I feel like I’ve said that in years past, but this year I think I finally found the one and wouldn’t mind he came knocking on my door this Christmas.
2. Last Christmas by Wham!
Yep! This one may have happened a few years ago, but I’m definitely gonna give my heart to someone special. See above if you’re curious for more.
3. Mary Did You Know? Dylan Scott version
This is one of my favorites. A little more on the religious side, but still absolutely beautiful.
4. I’ll Be Home For Christmas by Bing Crosby
No matter how far away family may be this holiday season may they always find a way home for Christmas.
5. Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree by Brenda Lee
Come on now, lets rock around the Christmas tree and do some caroling!
6. Wonderful Christmas Time by Paul McCartney
Simply having a wonderful Christmas time. Need I say more?
7. A Christmas Prayer (Joy to the World) by Nick Jonas
This may not be the most popular Christmas song out there, but it touched my heart back in 2005 and has been one of my favorites for years. The artist has since grown up, but the song is still beautiful and holds an important meaning for the holiday season.
8. Where Are You Christmas by Faith Hill
Made popular in the live action remake of How the Grinch Stole Christmas with Jim Carey, this song is for all those battling the true meaning of Christmas. I’ve been there in the past myself so I love to have this song on my Christmas playlist.
9. Have a Holly Jolly Christmas by Burl Ives
Another great one to celebrate the Christmas season with family and friends.
10. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas by Frank Sinatra
I hope everyone does have a merry Christmas this season. I’m going to be doing my best. School will be nearly finished, the term will be over and I’m gong to try to relax.
