Just because something is pretty and you want it right now it doesn't mean that you have to have it now. Something that you see on Instagram or Facebook is not something that you have to have right now. All of those filters are not doing you any good. When you are looking at products with filters on them, you are falling victim to advertising. Everyone on social media is advertising for companies for free if you have a small number of followers. If you are looking at Kylie Jenner, Jeffree Star, etc, and you are saving up for that lifestyle or a BIRKIN bag that could be lost at the airport, you need to take a step back. Having those luxury items should not be taking up most of your budget because you are paying for the name and not the material.
I am not judging anyone on how to live their life, but if you are on a budget and you're buying Beats by Dr. Dre or Apple products like it's nothing then there is a problem. There is a difference between saving up to buy something to celebrate a big accomplishment and buying something because it is the "next big thing". I used to buy higher end stuff and spend money on items that I looked at for 30 seconds and was done with it. As I got a job and started saving up for stuff that I wanted, I found that I did not want it. I came to realize that it was truly the hype that was surrounding the product.
I used money that my college paid me back from my scholarship to buy myself a Mac Book Air because I was needing a new laptop. Now I that my newest laptop is an HP, I have a lot more features that my Mac Book never had for 2 times less money. I searched and compared models between the Mac and PC. I asked my brother, who is tech-savvy, on comparison on models and he preferred the HP. We can argue Mac vs PC, but that's a whole different topic. I was surrounded by people who wanted all of the finer things in life on a budget and that messed with my head for a long time. Do I regret buying all of the nice things? No, because I learned that sometimes the nicer things are worth their value.
When I bought a newer car for my first for a moderate price, it was the nicest car that was parked at my parent's house. It was only 3 years old, it had things that my parent's car did not have. This shows that sometimes the price is worth the price tag. When you are thinking about buying something because you saw it on social media or your friends are influencing you. That means you need to take a step back and see if something is worth the price. Always remember to check your budget and always save for the bigger purchases because sometimes it will come around and bite you in the but.
