Comic Review: Justice League vs. Suicide Squad #2
DC Comics

Justice League vs. Suicide Squad is published by DC comics. It is written by Joshua Williamson with art (on this issue) by Tony S. Daniel.

For those of you who haven’t read the first issue, Justice League vs. Suicide Squad is exactly what the title says it is: The Justice League fighting the Suicide Squad – leading to an eventual team-up, because why would they dedicate 6 issues to them just fighting? That would get boring. However, the fight scene that begins in issue 1 and ends in issue 2 is pretty epic. Considering there are so many characters in this series, they do a good job of giving each one their focus time and portraying their personalities. For instance, we see Superman and Cyborg trying to be the ultimate good guys they are, attempting to reason with Enchantress and Killer Frost, sympathizing with them as opposed to just kicking their butts. Which totally backfires in their faces, but hey, that’s Superman and Cyborg for you. Meanwhile, Batman, Flash, our new Green Lanterns – Jess and Simon – and Wonder Woman, just go straight into face punching.

Although it’s cool to see them all fighting, there is a bigger plot, a bigger threat, waiting to be unleashed onto the world. We don’t know exactly what it is yet, but Maxwell Lord has broken some pretty intense villains out in order to make a deal with them. In exchange for their assistance, he will help them get revenge on Amanda Waller.

Pros: I am seriously impressed with Joshua Williamson’s ability to capture many characters in one issue and do it accurately. I can actually say I enjoyed the depiction of Harley Quinn (sorry to those who have enjoyed her solo Rebirth series, but I think she is written incredibly poorly). There was never a time where we were introduced to a character and I thought, “eh, that doesn’t seem like something they’d say/do”. Probably my favorite thing about the series so far is Caitlin Snow, the current Killer Frost. She was introduced during the New 52 run of Fury of Firestorm: The Nuclear Men. I don’t know a whole lot about her but this series makes me want to. They’re doing an amazing job of exploring her character and her potential to grow and change. She’s different from many of the Suicide Squad members, the exception being June Moon, aka Enchantress. I really liked the pair-offs chosen for this issue. Batman vs Deadshot. Superman vs Enchantress. Flash vs Captain Boomerang. Cyborg vs Killer Frost. Green Lanterns vs El Diablo. Aquaman vs Killer Croc. And my favorite: Wonder Woman vs Harley Quinn. The whole time Wonder Woman is chasing her, Harley is making jokes and Wonder Woman just seems so over it. You look at her expression and you can just hear the heavy sigh.

Cons: Cyborg was kind of lame in this issue. Like…he was definitely himself, but he did 0 fighting. He tries to reason with Killer Frost, she sucks out some of his life force and then he passes out and that’s that. That’s it. No sweet electro cannon gun, no missiles, no electricity producing armor that should have zapped Killer Frost off. No. Just talking, face grab, down he goes. As much as all the other characters got their spotlight, I feel like Cyborg got majorly gypped. So, while I understand there is a lot going on and a lot of characters, I hope we get a little bit better of a Cyborg next issue. He deserves to get to do something cool.

OVERALL SCORE: 9 / 10

While I greatly enjoyed this issue, I was disappointed with Cyborg. However, I'm really looking forward to issue #3 and hopefully Cyborg will get some much deserved face time.

Happy Reading!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
