While being a college student is an amazing, beneficial experience, it's also a time where many of us go through our lowest points yet. There's nothing like failing a test you spent two weeks studying for, ruining your favorite shirt because you haven't quite figured out the whole "lights from darks" laundry thing and crying yourself to sleep the first few nights of freshman year because you're already homesick. As college students, many of whom are on our own for the very first time, it's easy to get lost in the negativity and stresses. How do we navigate ourselves out of the hardships and stay positive when we are feeling so low? Turning to the Bible can give you the kind of guidance and support you can't find anywhere else. I've found that there is a verse for just about anything a person could be going through, and here are just a few that have stuck out to me in my time of need. I hope they can be beneficial to you as well.
For when you feel weak...
“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”— Isaiah 40:31
“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” — 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
For when you feel alone...
“Your God, the Lord himself, will be with you. He will not fail you or abandon you.” — Deuteronomy 31:6
“I will be with you always, to the end of the age.” —Matthew 28:20
For when you feel depressed...
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."— Joshua 1:9
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” —John 14: 27
For when you feel overwhelmed...
"You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you." — Isaiah 26:3
"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." — Matthew 11:28
For when you feel anxious...
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." — Philippians 4:6-7
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." — Matthew 6:34
For when you feel discouraged...
"And I will lead the blind in a way that they do not know, in paths that they have not known I will guide them. I will turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level ground. These are the things I do, and I do not forsake them." — Isaiah 42:16
"When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all." — Psalm 34:17-19
