Recently, Netflix has stepped up their game, uploading an abundance of Netflix originals and adding a plethora of different movies to their queue. One day, as I was scrolling through Netflix, I noticed that "Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee" had been added to the repertoire of television shows on the online streaming service and I could not have been more excited.
Just as the title implies the show is about comedians in cars getting coffee, a quite simple concept. However, the show is so much more than just that. Comedian Jerry Seinfeld, most famously known for "Seinfeld" or sadly "The Bee Movie" know-a-days, drives around in a different classic car each episode as he picks up a comedian and takes them for a cup of coffee. The episodes range in time from about 15 to 21 minutes, which on surface level sound short and sweet but the timing is actually perfect. Straight from the beginning of the show, as Jerry's legendary voice details the car he's driving that episode, it feels as if you are put into a hypnotic state of constant smiling.
That state only furthers as Jerry picks up his guest for the day and the two of them embark on their journey to merely get a cup of coffee. The purity of just two people talking, old friends catching up is what makes this show ridiculously fun to watch. Every episode you can tell that Jerry and his guest are just two people making conversation looking for some good coffee and good company.
The show brings a very down-to-the-earth aspect to seemingly larger than life comedy and sometimes non-comedy figures. Just a quick example of some of Jerry's guests include Chris Rock, Jim Gaffigan, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Tina Fey, Lorne Michaels, and even former president Barack Obama. I mean the list could go on and on. Yet, even with all these different types of people and comedians you can see and feel the intimate relationship that Jerry has or is building with each. It is the simple roots of the show that make it truly endearing and nothing but binge-worthy. Now, with 4 seasons available on Netflix, I highly recommend watching "Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee".
