Hello, Catherine! I read your article: "If You Don't Have A College Job, You Can't Complain About College Stress." Congrats on your viral work!
But let's get to the real reason I wrote this response. I don't have a job. I am a college student who lives with my parents. I feel stressed 98% of the time due to being a college kid. The only job I had was over the summer. My parents don't want me working while going to school, so I am blessed to have such a good example of hard-work to look up to.
1. 98% of my stress stems from being worried about trying to balance my extracurricular activities with schoolwork.
I am an EIC here on Odyssey. I write content. I go to church three times each week. I teach Sunday School. I help with several other ministries within the church. I like to spend quality time with my family.
2. I don't "just go to class."
Here's all I have to do for my grades: go to class, do well on all homework assignments, visit during office hours, study for quizzes, write papers, study for tests, do more homework, read a few chapters, write another paper, etc. And actually, weekends are the busiest portion of the week for me right now.3. I don't shop often because I, too, have a lot of stuff to get done.
I am at home a lot staring at this computer screen or at my textbook. After that I have lunch. Then I have to get back to studying. Then I go to my brother's football games twice a week. Then I do lots of stuff for church and Odyssey.
4. I DO know what time management and money management are both like.
I have church three times a week, Odyssey EIC and writing, and other hobbies. I can't procrastinate or I'll fall asleep doing my studies. Before my first job over the summer, when I was given money, I used very little. If it was a $10 bill, I spent it over the course of two weeks.
5. I rarely am social.
AKA I never have been the one to "hang out" with friends. I spend most of my time on the computer trying to ace my test.6. My major is just as hard as yours.
You are an engineer, but I am an accountant. Accounting is fun, but sometimes it can get tough (but with accounting that should be obvious already).7. I don't go out to eat and get something expensive.
No! Most of my meals are found in the cabinets at home. Mostly sandwiches and "Spaghetti O's." I go out to eat with my family too, but its not to anywhere expensive because we live on budget: we do have a student going through college you know.8. Do you think my parents would give me their credit card willingly?
(Hint: the answer is no. Also, I used more money when I had a job over the summer.) Parents who let their child not work and study instead don't just give students their credit cards. THAT IS "FAKE NEWS." I actually rarely get to spend money besides gas and sometimes lunch.
