College Is When You Miss Your Mom The Most

I still need my mom in college more than I have ever needed her.

College Is When You Miss Your Mom The Most

I am only a little over a month into school and it has hit me, and it's hit me hard, on way more than a few occasions, that I still need my mom.

Mom's are able to make anything and everything better. You don't realize how much you miss them until your first tummy ache. When it's 11:30 p.m. on a school night and you want to text your mom so bad but you already know she is in bed, fast asleep.

Or when a part of your body hurts. Sure you can call or text her but she is only going to tell you to take some ibuprofen and forget about it. There's just something that automatically makes you feel better when you are in the comfort of your own home and she tells you to take ibuprofen.

Or when you're having a bad day. College is stressful. Sometimes all I need is to hear the voice of someone that loves me to help reassure me it will all be okay. Sure, you make tons of friends in college. Some of them you become really close with. But it's not home and it's not your mom so they obviously don't love you like your mom. And there is nothing better in this world than being loved by someone.

Mom is always the best go to when you're not feeling like yourself or you're feeling down. Things happen. People get sad, happy, excited, depressed, upset and are overwhelmed by so many other emotions. Calling mom to hear her say you're still pretty, you're still kind hearted and you're still loved by so many people will never get old. Just like calling mom to hear her say she is proud of you after you aced a really hard exam or that you got a job or just that you're doing well will always be a confidence booster.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
