College, As Told By Phoebe Buffay

As I finish my first semester of college and work my way up to finals (yikes), I've seen myself go through many stages. And who better to describe them then the most unique, outgoing, and wonderfully weird character on television, Phoebe Buffay. The lovely Phebs has multiple expressions that us college kids can relate to.

1. When you walk into your first class of college ever feeling terrified and wanting to make friends

You're nervous, shy, filled with anxiety, and so's the person next to you.

2. When it's 1 AM Sunday night and you just remembered you have and 8 AM the next morning.

You really wish you didn't and you really wish you could actually sleep.

3. When you have a project due Monday, two tests on Tuesday, 100 pages of reading due Wednesday, and an essay due Thursday.

You feel your head spinning faster than life itself.

4. When someone asks you for help with a paper or any math related equation.

You just don't have the energy to be a helpful person sometimes.

5. When you seen an attractive boy in your class.

At least there's some pretty in your sea of ugly work.

6. And that moment when boy starts making conversation with you.

And of course, you don't have anything insightful to say.

7. But then again, you and your friends have a real rant about your feelings towards boys.

I mean, this happens.

8. When you decide to wear a cute outfit for once and your friends compliment you.

We all take a break from the cozy hoodies and sweats every once in a blue moon.

9. When you're beyond sick, but are paying too much money for your classes to miss them.

Sometimes we like to pretend we're okay.

10. When the student that gives too much commentary in class tries to talk to you.

Doing this before noon especially is a big no no.

11. When you get an A on an assignment.

What a feeling, to be honest.

12. When your teachers puts something you never talked about on a test.

You're just...SHOCKED.

13. When people talk about their future and plans throughout and after college.

So you slither back in your bubble of confusion.

14. When you've excepted the fact that you're completely and utterly broke.

Well, money really can be everything.

15. When you finally see your friends after who knows how long.

And you have much love for them too.

16. When a teacher wants you to edit, but basically do over your whole paper.

Yay for screwing up, yay for more emotional torture.

17. When make it through another semester and you can sense the freedom coming to you.

You're stress free!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
