Today, my professor said something that resonated very deeply with me. She said, "As a student, you are a learner. However, you are not here to only learn facts and figures; you are in college to learn about yourself." It's extremely important to remember that we are so young. There is still so much time to figure out who we really are, and who we are is constantly changing. There's so much beauty in the fact that we do not have to be confined to one identity.
College is the perfect time to explore your interests, as well as move out of your comfort zone. We are too young to be children, yet not old enough to be considered adults. High school and all its petty drama is far behind us, and now is the time to focus on yourself and the future. Go out and try that sport you've never played before in your life. Find out what makes a fire burn in your soul and makes you want to scream your joy to the mountains.
College is not all about tests, papers, and internships. It's about failure, adventure, and wild nights with friends. Worry about your future, and take pride in your studies, but do not let the stress consume your entire life. Remind yourself that you'll only be as young as you are in this very moment, and the sun will rise again tomorrow. Remember that mistakes are okay, and this is a time to make a lot of them.
I guess what I'm getting at is this: do not forget to discover and study your own interests and hobbies. These four years of undergraduate will never happen again, so make the most of it. Study your course material, but do not forget to study yourself along the way. We will all grow and change throughout these years, and we must keep that in mind. Forgive yourself, and take care of your mind, soul, and body. Learn about the world while you learn more about your own world.
