The first week of a college semester is known as syllabus week. This week primarily focuses on the expectation that your professor has of you, what books you will need for the course, and the work that will be due on certain dates. In all reality, it is a relaxing week where you have little to no work (sometimes).
Depending on what class and your professor, you may have a different experience during syllabus week. Some professors may require you to have all of your books and an assignment done before the first class or some may let you leave right after that go over the syllabus.
Here are some thoughts every college student has on syllabus week:
1. "I don't need to buy these books yet, I have plenty of time." *first day of class* Professor: "Everyone please take our the assigned text."
2. "I just worked all summer to blow all my money on books that I probably will use once."
3. "It's day one and you expect me to write a five page paper by next class?"
4. "There is no way my class with go over fifteen minutes. We're just going over the syllabus."
5. "Maybe if I drop this class now, and take it next year, it will be easier."
6. "Oh God, no. HE/SHE'S in this class? Alright, that's it. This is my sign to drop this class."
7. "So, this is a 100-level course and I am already lost. I'm such a failure."
8. "Maybe if I dress nice now, when I reach my potato stage in the semester people won't judge me as hard."
9. "Having no A/C should be illegal."
10. "Where the hell am I going in life?"
