The fall semester is about to begin, which inevitably means that our stress levels are about to rise. People choose to cope with their stress in different ways; for some, it's not uncommon to use video games as a source of relief. However, if shooting bad guys isn't your thing, you may prefer something more low-key.
Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the most current edition of the Animal Crossing series; a game that simultaneously has many, but also no objectives. The game follows a premise where you, the player, arrive in a town and are promptly named mayor. After that, everything is in your control, you decide what it is that you would like to do.
You can spend your time talking to villagers, fishing, catching bugs, collecting and making clothes, building Public Works Projects, paying off your house... The options that this game presents are essentially limitless! There is always something to do in your town.
When I find myself stressed, Animal Crossing: New Leaf is my go-to way to relax. There's nothing like watering flowers to put you at ease! Any college student would find themselves lulled into a good mood by the smooth stylings of Animal Crossing music star, K.K. Slider (who, yes, is an adorable dog.)
Some of you might remember playing Animal Crossing throughout your childhood. In elementary school, my brother and I would play Animal Crossing on our Gamecube. Nostalgia plays a part in why I find Animal Crossing to be a stress reliever, but even a first time player could see why others find the game to be such a huge source of relaxation.
(See? Even the game itself agrees!)
If you don't like playing alone, you are also able to visit other towns and mayors. As a matter of fact, Animal Crossing "dates" are becoming popular for couples who want to spend time together, but don't feel like going out.
Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, the next in the series, is being released on Sept. 25, plenty of time for you to see whether or not Animal Crossing is the game for you!
