As a college student, it is important for many to get the most out of their money. While most stores do not offer college discounts, there are quite a few places that do perhaps you didn't know about. Here are some tips and stores that let any college student save money.
Ask If They Offer A Discount
Asking is really important because different locations have different discounts at local restaurants and stores. Many people might be scared to ask about discounts openly, but I would just say that there is nothing to be afraid of because the worse thing the cashier could tell you is "no" which has happened to me plenty of times.
Always Have Your ID On You
I want to emphasize this point because I have gone places that I would not have expected they would offer a college discount, and they do. This is a great tip during the summer if you are on vacation with your family. Lots of museums and sorts offer college discounts, no matter the college, so you don't want to miss out on the savings! You need to show a cashier your ID to obtain a discount at most places, so just don't forget it!
Ask Upperclassman Where The Discounts Are
If you are a new college student, perhaps even new to your college's town, you are going to be unfamiliar with the shops and restaurants. Asking someone who has been around for a few years about college discounts might have more insight into places that you didn't know about before.
Chains
Close to my college, Florida Gulf Coast University, there are a few food-related discounts. I discovered that Perkins offers 10% and Moe's Southwest Grill offers a discount as well. Since these are chains, the discounts should apply to most locations.
Retail Stores
If you are close to an outlet shopping mall or just a plain mall, ask about discounts! There are good discounts you wouldn't expect. For example, the outlet mall close to me offers 15% off at Vineyard Vines, Kate Spade, and J. Crew Factory Store. These already discounted stores let college students save a few more bucks on things like clothing and Christmas presents they might have spent full price on somewhere else!
