College students operate on a different frequency

Yesterday I came home from college and settled back into living at home. Don’t get me wrong, I love being with my parents and back home where I am comfortable being myself; but, I quickly remembered that the rest of the world doesn’t operate at the same frequency as college students.

8:30pm to a college student means that you still have five or so more hours to study, and get in a Netflix episode afterwards. You still have plenty of time to get food or go visit friends. Outside of a college campus, 8:30pm means that it is nearing time to wind down for the day. On the flip side, 8:30am on a college campus may be dead quiet while 8:30am outside the campus walls is alive with the hustle and bustle of people commuting to work or going about their daily schedule. The average college student may still sleep seven hours if they are lucky, those seven just will begin in the morning of the following day and most likely is totaled with naps in mind.

Apart from the stereotypical aspect of college students being on a completely different sleep schedule, social aspects are also very different when you come home from college. At school, all your friends will always be no more than a fifteen-minute walk away. You can always go and hangout in their room anytime of the day.

At home, there is a completely different atmosphere for socialization. Instead of friends being down the hall, you are now surrounded by family which can mean for a very different atmosphere.

All in all, the daily life of an average college student is very different from the daily life of a normal functioning adult in the real world and sometimes you forget that until you leave campus for the first time in a while.

I have been operating on a college student schedule, which most people don’t find sustainable or even passable; but I didn’t even realize it till I was looking for food and starting to make plans for the evening while my parents and neighbors were going to bed.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
