I started my college career as a finance major. Then changed it about 5 different times. Only to end up back as a business major at the end of my sophomore year. I’m pretty sure my family just gave up asking what I was studying because it changed so often, and it was impossible to keep up. It was embarrassing, especially when some students know what they’re going to be at age 5, and actually follow through.
It’s okay if you can’t decide.
Was it frustrating to change majors just to end up back where I started? Yes. But thankfully I can still graduate on time, and I am so thankful for going through different classes with different experiences. It showed me that it was exactly what I didn’t want to do, and I didn’t have to second guess myself anymore. I wasn’t the same person as I was freshman year, and it took me awhile to figure out where I fit.
You might feel the exact same way. Family and friends keep asking you what you’re studying or what you want to do, and you don’t have the slightest idea. That’s okay. Ignore their weird looks and judgemental comments. Because it’s your life, and it’s your future. Everyone is going to have an opinion, but you don’t need to listen to them. If you need to change your major a few times because you start a new one and decide you don’t like it, don’t be afraid to change it.
God is leading you in mysterious ways.
Maybe you need to take those random psychology classes before you decide that you actually want to study biology. Maybe you need to meet those people in your science classes before you end up switching to business. God has a reason for everything, and maybe He’s just helping you along through a detour before you find where you're actually meant to be. It might not make sense now, and you’re probably tired of feeling lost. But trust in God’s timing, and soon it will all come together and you’ll be saying “Ohh, that’s why that happened”.
You might not know what you’re doing, but God does. You don’t need to have it all figured out all the time, because that’s just exhausting and unrealistic. It’s okay to change your mind and go with the flow when things concerning your future get blurry. God has it all in control, and I know that is hard to believe sometimes, but it’s true. It's okay to slow down, and take some time to really figure out what God's plan for you is.
Even after you graduate, you may find yourself in a career that God did not choose for you, and end up moving you again. Whatever He does in your life, know that it is with the best intentions because He does not want anything less than the best for you.
