11 Ways You, As A College Freshman, Are Like Kimmy From 'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt'

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is a very hilarious show about a girl (with a very rough background) trying to make it through the big city of New York. If you have not watched it yet, I highly recommend because its one of the only shows that can personally make me laugh out loud. Being a college student is very stressful but also very fun and the character of Kimmy Schmidt perfectly captures these moments. So if you haven't seen the show yet, then what are you doing? Go watch this very hilarious show.

1. The level of excitement is very high

You're ready to start a new chapter in your life and you couldn't be more excited. You are very optimistic, prepared, and you have a lot to look forward to.

2. Riding public transportation for the first time was a liberating experience

When it comes time to take public transportation, the first time is always liberating. You're stuffed into a crammed bus with people you don't know, you're unsure of where to get off at, its smelly and noisy, and it's awesome.

3. You spend countless hours watching Netflix

Stressful days call for relaxing nights. After a day filled with classes, work, and more work, you need time spent by yourself. This results in endless hours of binge watching a new tv show, curling up on the couch, and getting addicted to a new series. You will find yourself spending more and more time watching tv and that is perfectly ok.

4. You developed very poor eating habbits

At school, you are now on your own when it comes to food habits. Because of this, you learn it's very hard to get all of your nutrients in one day. You also have the freedom to eat whatever you want at whatever hour you want. Whether it's pizza at 3am or candy for dinner, food is food.

5. Your guy best friend is perfect for stupid advice

When it comes time for stupid advice, your guy best friend will be there for you. They don't really care if what they say is blunt or unnecessary. No matter what, they will help you out in any situation and will always have your back.

6. Homework is a struggle

When it comes down to doing homework, you'd rather be spending time with friends or hanging out at your favorite spot on campus. Sitting down to do homework is constantly a struggle because its boring and time consuming. But it is necessary to complete in order to get your degree.

7. When it's time to go out, you rely on friends for fashion advice

Because you can never come up with outfit ideas on your own, you need a best friend to help you out. Before going out, you raid your closets together coming up with the best ideas and choices. Without them, you would not look as great as you did.

8. You're the "mom friend" when it comes to taking care of friends after said night out

After a fun and crazy night out, there needs to be a friend that takes care of every situation. The designated "mom friend" takes care of his or her friends after the night and makes sure everyone gets home and in bed safely. If you're like Kimmy, you're the friend who takes care of all of the responsibilities.

9. You can only afford to live in a crappy little apartment with roommates

You probably already know how expensive living is. Nice apartments are very expensive and nice dorms are even worse. As long as you have a bed and some way to eat food, you'll be happy with what you have. Because the best experiences are those made in small little spaces with some of your closest friends.

10. You learn very quickly that adulting is hard

Paying bills, going grocery shopping, scheduling appointments and meetings; all of them are very hard. Adulting hits you fast and it comes knocking you down but it's a great experience. Being in college on your own, you learn very quickly learn especially how hard being an adult really is.

11. But in the end, you successfully completed your first year

Congrats! You made it through your freshman year! Through all of the homework, classes, and junky food, you survived and will continue to go on to your sophomore. Just like Kimmy, you're always excited for your next adventure and are just excited about life in general.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
