Thoughts Every College Student Has Throughout The Week

I love college, but I don't love Mondays.

Studying is an endless loop for college students; we never know when we will finish our work. When we feel like we have done our work, there is still some “stuff” you need to do. It goes beyond cooking, doing laundry, calling your parents, socializing, catching some Z’s, studying more to have that 4.0 GPA and other overflowing responsibilities that need to be done.

It is hard not to be a ball of negativity...because here we are, pressed from the deadlines, seeing your grades in the grade book going down and wishing them to go up. Plus, the thought of needing to get your sh*t together because your room is looking more like a broken ship than a home sweet home.

That is why I had to gather our inner emotional reaction throughout the week, so you don’t feel like you’re the only one and you realize, it is not that horrible after all:

1. Monday

It is the start of the week. You are probably waking up saying, “This is going to be a long day.”

2. Tuesday

Tuesday usually passes by like a lightning strike; fast because you’re so busy working.

3. Wednesday

Dang! It’s almost Thursday! Your power is getting low, you need some recharge; maybe need a cup of coffee or two. Under-eye bags start to reappear. Congrats, you have panda eyes!!

4. Thursday

Yay! So much more work to be done! And you have to do laundry soon or else you need to get a new pair of underwear because that’s the only reason you wash your clothes. The room is messier than ever, and when you do clean your room, you forget the pile of work on your desk because you’re too tired after cleaning up the bedroom.

5. Friday

Finally! You can relax as if you are in Hawaii while listening to the ocean breeze and the wind swirling. You can see the palm trees dancing with the Hula dancers with warm weather and sunny sun. What a beautiful day… not until after you are done with class.

6. Saturday

So much fun activities. Go out into the wild and have fun!

7. Sunday

We go to brunch on Sunday! And of course, after that, we go home and drown ourselves with more work to do and tomorrow is Monday again.

Aside from the negativity, remember everything will pay off in the future. Remember the time you did your homework, and you realized it was not due the next day? Or when you studied for a test, but then the class was canceled? You recognize how you don’t regret doing homework and studying for the test, but you are thankful you have it done. Being in college is the time where you have the LEAST amount of responsibilities. Enjoy while it lasts!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
