Three years have flown by quicker than I ever thought they would when I was a pea-brained incoming freshman.
I honestly can't even tell you what I did or what happened for these last few years other than a lot of highs and a lot of lows but I do know this: that being in the final year of my undergrad career involves a lot of mixed emotions and many, many questions.
This is by far the most stressful and nostalgic year of my life, and it doesn't help when people ask me questions.
1. "Just follow your heart and the rest will fall into place!"
I'm aware this isn't a question but I thought I'd start with this to really emphasize the fact that following one's heart does not, in fact, make the rest of the factors in your life fall into place. I'm here to tell you that if this were true, I'd be able to online shop and eat unlimited amounts of pasta while magically getting accepted into the top PA school in the world.
2. "Will your major get you a job?"
Yes, Debbie, my English major will get me some job.
3. "It's so scary that you're a senior ha ha ha don't you think?"
I am fully aware just how terrifying it is to leave the outskirts of my undergraduate career but I really don't need the extra validation of that.
4. "Are you and your boyfriend still long distance even after college?"
Probably.
5. What jobs are out there for English majors?"
Literally anything.
6. "Why didn't you get any offers from any PA schools yet? Are you trying hard enough?"
I honestly feel like it's unheard of to take a much-needed post-baccalaureate year but once out of the high-strung bubble that is college, there are more and more people who are taking these extra years to complete their graduate school requirements.
7. "Are you living at home after this year?"
Well taken that I have $2.76 in my bank account currently, yes.
8. "Why didn't you save up?"
Because tequila and sushi are costly.
9. Aren't you worried about like, what's gonna happen to you next?"
I am completely terrified and don't know what I'll be doing this time next year.
10. "I think you'll be fine...kind of?"
Your reassurance really puts my mind at ease, it really does.
These ten things along with 90 other questions will constantly be asked to me and I feel like we always need an answer but we're seniors and this is one of those few times where we don't necessarily need to have that answer (yet).
