It wasn't until college that I realized the true meaning of sisterhood. For the majority of my life, I grew up in a co-educational school system, and while that was a great experience, I never had the opportunity to connect with a group of only girls.

When I had the option of choosing my housing for this year, I skeptically signed up to live in the all-girls wing in my building, but I'm so glad I made that decision because I have learned a lot and been inspired by so many strong women this year.

Here are some of the perks of living in an all-girls' wing:

1. There are never any awkward bathroom incidents

This is one of the biggest perks (in my opinion) of living with a hall of girls - you'll never have to do the awkward run from your bathroom to your room in your towel.

2. We have the best floor events

Since I live on a floor of just girls, all of our bonding nights and activities are crafted towards our interests. The options are endless, from spa nights to yoga in the morning, to galentine's day.

3. You get an instant group of friends

While having guy friends is wonderful, sometimes it's easier and faster to become friends with girls because you can bond over a variety of hobbies.

4. Someone always has chocolate

Chocolate is always a necessity.

5. Someone is always awake and willing to do work with you

This is essential, especially for midterms and finals season.

6. Every day is like a sleepover

There are always people willing to stay up and watch movies, play board games, go on midnight snack runs or just talk. It's nearly impossible to get bored or lonely.

7. You always have a Zumba buddy

Working out is so much more fun with friends.

8. You get to experience a sisterhood you never had before

Eventually, the girls who you see every day in the hallways or around the building become like your family away from home. Although I may not choose to live on an all girls' floor next year, it was an irreplaceable experience and made the transition from high school to college so much smoother.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
