If College Majors Were Items At The Dining Hall

Fruit salad is actually a work of art.

The dining hall is interesting because some days you go in, eat a great tasting meal and leave satisfied, while other days it's a struggle because all there is to eat is crunchy pasta and frozen iceberg lettuce. Different foods invoke different emotions in me when I check the menu online. I get excited for chocolate chip pancakes.. not so much for salmon. Some foods remind me of being a kid again, while some make me feel like an adult.

Foods basically have their own personalities, much like how different college majors as a whole differ in personality. So here's my take on which dining hall food would be each major.

1. Nursing: Mac and cheese

Mac-and-cheese gives me the same feeling of comfort that nurses are supposed to give to their patients. It always makes a dreary day a bit better.

2. Education: Chocolate chip pancakes

Pancakes, in general, make me feel like a kid again, and chocolate chips make them even more special. Also, I've always learned in school that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so those studying to be a teacher better get a good meal in the morning to deal with kiddos all day.

3. Communication: Pizza

Okay, so I'm a communication major and I eat a lot of pizza. But how could I not? There are many different things you can do with pizza, just like there are many different things you can do with a communication major. If there was only one way to cook pizza or one social media platform to work for, life would be boring.

4. Theater: Spicy chicken strips

At my college, they're called "chicken strips of fire." Theater people, like spicy chicken strips, tend to be different from the norm. They're creative, passionate, smart, and "spicy."

5. Music: Ice cream

The quality of the ice cream at the dining hall varies a lot. At its best, it's rich and memorable. At its worst, it's runny and a disgrace to ice cream. Like music, the quality depends on how well the instrument (or ice cream machine) is being used.

6. Psychology: Citrus chicken lemongrass risotto

I'm not too sure what this is, but it's on my school's menu. I can connect this to how psychology can be hard to understand and interpret. There are multiple ingredients (or reasons) why things are the way that they are.

7. Accounting: Salad

People who eat a lot of salads are usually pretty dedicated to their salads, just as accounting majors are dedicated to their major. And it's a very respectable major because some people like me could never do math, or enjoy eating most salads.

8. English: Burgers

I know for a fact that being an English major requires a lot of decoding the pages within the cover, or the meat between the buns. Sometimes the "meat" can be hard to decode because it's covered with mayo or vegetables.

9. Business: Fish

"Business" sounds super "adult-y" just like fish is a very "adult-y" meal to eat. I guess I'm not quite ready for the world of fish yet, but some people are, and that's awesome.

10. Art: Fruit salad

Fruit salad is always colorful and makes you feel like you're eating healthy and doing something right. Creating art is a great way to detox or clear your mind from negativity, just like fruit freshens your breath and makes you feel better if you're also eating fried foods.

Even if dining hall food can be repetitive, the options it does have will make you nostalgic for dining hall food when you graduate. Much like your major!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
