1. You can rent textbooks.
I honestly did not realize this until I was shopping for my textbooks on move-in day. Many campus bookstores, as well as Amazon, offer cheaper renting options.
2. The residence hall public showers are not horrible.
Granted, it’s not your comfortable shower at home with just the right water pressure, but it’s not as bad as it’s made out to be.
3. Also, walking everywhere will not kill you.
Yes, my legs hurt tremendously the first couple days. Soon I got used to it and actually enjoyed the longer walks to the gym and the dining hall. I always use the escalators though.
4. It will be hard to make friends the first few weeks.
Everyone is still new to campus. They are still feeling awkward from all the icebreaker games and the newness of everything. Give it time and just be yourself.
5. Being social is great, but it’s important to have “me time.”
I love going to worship services, games, out to coffee with friends, and other social things. But I also love just chilling in my dorm, listening to music or catching up on my reading. Having personal time helps you grow as an individual.
6. The dining hall food is not as crappy as you think.
Personally, my dining hall offers a great selection of food. And I hate spending all my money on a pizza or tacos when I just could have grabbed a bite to eat at the dining hall.
7. You will learn to like things you thought you didn’t.
College life opens you up to new experiences, people, and cultures. You get away from the small town, close minded influences of your high school and really begin to change your mind about the world.
