Call me a crazy, irrational millennial, but my education comes first at this point in my life. Wow, I sound like I'm part of such a horrible generation who needs to get their priorities straight, right?
This will probably be one of the biggest investments in my life, and I've worked diligently to be here and it will continue to be that way until graduation. It's not a crime to prioritize something you've put so much money and work into. Don't let anyone ever make you feel bad about going after what you want. I haven't had anything handed to me and I can confidently say that I work a lot harder than many "adults" I know. I work, I go to school full-time, and I'm a part of extra-curriculars all while choosing to commute for a year.
Why am I making things so hard for myself? Well, I want to make something of myself, and not just with any job, but in a career in a field I love where I have a meaningful platform. And that means, in this day and age, that I need a degree from an accredited University that offers me organizations and clubs related to my major where I can gain experience. So if you were going condescendingly ask why I didn't start at a community college, there is your answer. I wouldn't have access to radio studios, student ran newspapers, etc. at a community college for my first two years.
I never want to be the person who has to rely on someone else to live comfortably, and I never want to feel like I owe anyone anything. Those who know me also know I'm not the stay at home type either. I love my majors, I'm passionate about them, and I cannot wait to start working in the news field. I would not be able to both love my career and live comfortably without a degree...so, I will continue placing school at the top of my list.
