PSA: It's spring break season!

I know we're all still lugging around that holiday weight and trying to avoid the inevitable, but with spring break a little more than a month away it's probably time to consider that dreaded three-letter word: GYM.

Scary, right? At first it seems like a daunting task. "How in the world am I supposed to get rid of this food baby and look moderately presentable in a bathing suit in just a few short weeks?" Well with the right tools and motivation, you can...maybe...hopefully...okay maybe just wear a coverup? But if you're feeling optimistic, here are some basics you need to know.

1. Water: it's your friend.

After all, it makes up over half the percentage of your body. And, no, this isn't a "Shh, this is really vodka" situation. You. Need. Water. Trust me. Nothing feels as heavenly as ice cold water after you've been sweating for an hour.

2. Don't go alone.

Bring at least one friend with you so you're not going through this torture by yourself. It's incredible motivation, especially if you're competitive and don't want to be outdone. Having a group of friends with you is even better though because then it's like a party but, you know, with fitness instead of alcohol.

3. Take classes (the free ones because, let's be honest, we're all broke).

This is one reason having friends with you comes in handy. Nobody wants to embarrass themselves in Zumba or Step Aerobics alone. Plus, when you're all too sore to move the next day, you can lie on the floor together and discuss how much you hate the teacher but are definitely going back next week.

4. Don't forget to post.

You can't be a cliche girl in today's society without taking at least one selfie or, since you're at the gym, a basic mirror pic (pre-workout of course). Post it on Insta, Facebook, everywhere. And if you're with your friends, #SquadGoals.

5. Last but not least, you have to look the part.

Those yoga pants you sit and eat Oreos in while crying to The Notebook? Yea, this is what they're actually for. And you're not living up to your basic potential if you don't wear an over-sized t-shirt.

So, embrace your inner Fergie and "be up in the gym just workin on [your] fitness."

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
