They say that college is going to be one of the greatest times of your life. You meet new people, learn new skills and decide on a path you want to follow for the rest of your life.

When I first transferred to Lindenwood in the fall of 2016, one of my main concerns was that I wasn’t going to fit in. I wasn’t going to make any friends or enjoy myself at all.

That changed in the spring of 2017 when I officially began to take classes as a journalism major.

To all the friends I’ve made while in college, this one is for you.

1. Thank you for not judging me

Whether it be eating a bag of Andy Capp's hot fries in one sitting or asking a stupid question that I probably already know the answer to, thank you for not thinking I'm an idiot.

2. Thank you for backing me up

When I got answers wrong in class sometimes, thanks for backing me up and saving me from digging myself a bigger hole.

3. Thank you for always being down to get food

Whenever I take a break to get something to eat, I appreciate you for always wanting to come get something too. It makes me feel like I'm not a pig.

4. Thank you for reminding me when assignments are due

Sometimes I forget because of the millions of other things that I have to get done. So thanks for being my lifesaver and letting me know that that paper in capstone was due last week.

5. Thank you for encouraging me

When I'm nervous about writing a story or covering an event, thank you for telling me that I can do it and that you believe in me.

6. Thank you for putting me in my place when I need it

Sometimes I can get a little too carried away, so thank you for keeping me in check and letting me know that I need to stay in my own lane.

7. Thank you for accepting me

My biggest fear when I came here was that I wasn't going to fit in. Thanks for making me feel like I'm apart of a family.

8. Thank you for letting me voice my opinion

Even if nobody agrees with me, thank you for letting me get my voice out there.

9. Thank you for understanding when I'm stressed

Whenever I'm loaded down with assignments and other things to get done every week, thank you for understanding and helping me.

10. Thank you for being my friend

It's been a great feeling knowing that I'm accepted and cared about within my circle of friends. Thank you for being friends with me!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
