An Open Letter To My College Best Friend

I don't know how I survived 18 years without you.

An Open Letter To My College Best Friend

To my college best friend:

I’ve always heard the friends you make in college are the friends you’ll have for the rest of your life, and I hope those people are right. I never believed in this cliché, but after meeting you in class last semester, I would not want this statement to be anything less than true.

I cannot imagine how I survived an entire 18 years of my life without you because I honestly don't think I would have been able to survive college thus far without you by my side. Thinking about the next four months when you won't be a short walk away seems like a foreign concept to me now. I've gone to you for anything and everything since I've been at college, and you have always been there for me whenever I needed you.

In the very short time that we've known each other, we've individually gone through hell and back, but you've been by my side through every second of it. I'm so incredibly thankful for that. We've laughed until we've cried, we've cried until we laughed, and we've done everything in between. Freshman year has been one rollercoaster ride, but it's been the best one yet.

Before we leave for a summer apart, there are a few things I'd like to thank you for:

1. Thank you for looking out for me and knowing what's best for me, even if I don't. I cannot even count how many times I have gone to you for advice about something. Whether it's about class or boys, you always seem to know the right thing to say.

2. Thank you for the adventures no matter what time of day. Whether it was a girls night out, a movie night, or a coffee date, I knew you would always be down for any activity at any time.

3. Thank you for the study dates. Thank you for also being a procrastinator. Numerous times we've stayed up until 4 a.m. finishing lab reports or studying for midterms because we've put it off for weeks, and I definitely wouldn't have been able to pass the exams without you.

4. Thank you for dancing to "Closer" with me every time it comes on our Spotify playlist. It doesn't matter if we're in the middle of studying or walking to Insomnia because when this song plays, dancing is almost an automatic response.

5. Thank you for never doubting me--for the countless times I came to you complaining about chemistry or physics, and you somehow managed to convince me that, even through all of these struggles, my current major and this college are exactly where I am meant to be.

I couldn't have done freshman year without you. As we say goodbye for the summer, just know you'll be receiving your fair share of texts and FaceTime calls from me. With three years of college still ahead of us, I can't wait for what's to come.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
