8 Things Every College Freshman Hears But Doesn't Believe

Well believe it...it's all true!

8 Things Every College Freshman Hears But Doesn't Believe

I remember being told all of the below and not truly believing it. It was the stereotypical pre-college talks that everyone seemed so excited to share with me. I just remember nodding my head and smiling because what did I know? I thought I had my life together. Well, joke was on me. Because I here I am sharing with you everything I failed to truly believe yet found to become 100% true.

"It's okay to not be 100% sure about everything."

You are about to embark on some of the craziest parts of your life. Quite frankly, it is okay if you don't have it all figured out. Things are going to change. What you think now is not set in stone. And that's okay!

"You're going to try new things."

You may think you know what you like, what your passions are, what you want to learn. In reality, college is about to bring you so many new experiences unexpectedly that bring you to realize you had no idea what you were missing.

"You are going to get at least a little homesick."

I was pumped for what was ahead, but I too got sad and missed the little bit of home I thought I was ready to leave. No one is ever completely ready. But don't worry, the homesickness does not last forever.

"The Freshman 15 is real."

Whether it's just a couple of pounds or the actual 15, it happens. But don't worry you're not alone! And there's always gym if needed.

"Stress can be coped with."

Okay so YES everyone definitely wants to pull their hair out at some point in their college career. But you have to believe there are ways to make it okay. You will make it through. Everyone is in the same boat, it's just all about time and life management.

"Dining hall food does not compare to your mother's cooking."

Trust me, it's pretty bad. Unless you are on your way to UMASS, lower your standards. You're going to be missing mom's cooking in no time.

"The friends you meet at college will always be your best friends."

You may have just left behind a great group, and that is wonderful. However, the people you are about to meet become more than just friends. Your best friends at college turn into family. You spend your whole entire days by their side. The laughs, the tears, the dinners, the late night library sessions–it's all together. And just wait until you have to leave them for your first school break...and that's when the separation anxiety steps in.

"The best four years of your life are ahead of you."

I don't care if you think the last 4 years were everything you have hoped and dreamed...high school has nothing on college, believe me. New experiences, new people, and a new life await you. All you have to do is sit back, don't relax (you won't have time), and enjoy the ride.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
