When preparing to go to college having a good packing list is essential and even the extremely long, seemingly thorough list are missing key items. Don’t you worry your little-excited freshman mind, because I’ve compiled a list of things that I wish someone would have told me to bring to college so I wouldn’t have had to make so many trips to Target.

1. Ice Cube Trays

Whether it’s making ice coffee while already running late or cooling the burn from your curling iron, sometimes you don’t have time to go to the end of the hall to get ice and with ice cube trays you’ll always have some in your room.

2. Super Glue

Super glue has so many uses and you will find yourself needing it for an array of things throughout the year.

3. Extra Phone Charger

Friend and you both have 4%? Need one charge for your backpack and one for your room? Leave a charge somewhere? With two charges you will be prepared for all of this.

4. Fanny Pack

Fanny Packs are cool again, no longer give you the label of ‘Mother of Three’, and are super useful.

5. High School Jerseys

The last thing you want is to seem like a high school hero at your new college, but believe it or not, you should definitely bring a high school jersey or shirt. Pretty much every event has a theme and high school hero is a popular one.

6. Slippers

Dorm room floors and hallways have years and years of exposure to people’s nasty feet, random spills, dirty shoes, and other mysterious stains, so you should never go barefoot. Slippers are a comfy, easy fix to this.

7. Ziplock Bags

Ziplock bags are obviously useful for a handful of things and are just usually forgotten on the packing list.

8. Portable DVD/CD Player & Writer

Most computers don’t have CD drives anymore because so much can be downloaded and so they seem obsolete but that’s not always the case in college. By having a portable player/writer you will be ready if you need to download software, watch a DVD, or burn a CD.

9. Brita Filter Water Bottle

You have a Brita filter pitcher and a reusable water bottle so this might seem like overkill but when you need to refill your water bottle using a gross drinking fountain you will thank me.

10. Stamps & Envelopes

The amount of times I had to borrow stamps and envelopes was unreal.

11. Extra Hangers

Bringing just enough hangers for the clothes you brought to school is great but what happens when you go on a celebratory shopping trip after getting an A on an exam and buy 4 new easily wrinkling shirts?

12. Notes From AP Classes

Notes from high school can save your life trust me.

13. Business Attire

THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING ON THE LIST! You will need business casual and professional outfits for meetings, jobs, class presentations, and interviews and the last thing you want to do is stress out about it the night before because you don’t have anything to wear.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
