College is great, it really is. You get to make tons of new friends, have adventures, make memories, and of course pursue something you (hopefully) have a passion for.
Oh, and did I also mention the fact that almost everyone gets to rack up a debt that will take them a lifetime to get over?
Yes, the word that makes everyone cringe. DEBT.
By definition, debt is something that is owed or due.
Thus, college debt is when a "kid" pursues a higher education in order to have something to offer or contribute to the good of our world and owes something for it.
And, it's not like there is much of a choice after high school. If you want a job, most are requiring an education beyond high school.
Why are people being forced to pay outrageous amounts of money to receive an education?
But wait, that's not right, because the federal government just gives so much aid that no one is buried in debt. HA.
Just kidding, 70% of students receive NO scholarships or loan support.
And 60% receive no help from their parents, leaving students to pay for college all on their own.
This leaves about seven out of ten students feeling stressed and worried about their finances.
Causing students to drop out, putting financial trouble at the top for the reasons for kids leaving college.
For those that do stay in college, most leave with college debt. There are 44.2 million Americans with student loan debt.
Racking the total amount of loans to $1.31 trillion.
All the evidence points to the fact that a college degree comes at too high of a cost and there is too little of financial aid going around to help college students.
We need to do something about this, before America is drowning in college debt.
Whether it be more aid, or a reasonable price for the college degree, or a better system for dealing with loans- we need to figure something out.
