Things I Hate About The College Campus Bubble

It's a love-hate relationship.

As I was touring colleges my junior year of high school, I remember walking around thinking to myself Wow, this is beautiful. I was totally set on having a traditional college experience, with a big green campus and football and basketball games. Fast-forward 3 years later...I'm sitting here in my dorm with no car, feeling completely stranded--something I never thought about as a high school junior when I was admiring the greenery on my campus tour. The beauty of campus hasn't changed, but the practicality of it certainly has. Don't get me wrong--I love my campus. But I just can't seem to forget about the many inconveniences like:

1.  Being at school 100% of the time

You don't get to go to school and then go home. Living in a dorm means you're at school 100% of the time.

2. You don’t even know what's happening on the news

Because you probably don't have a t.v. in your room and even if you did there's no time to watch it

3. You have to wear flip-flops in the shower

4. If you live on a traditional campus without a car, getting anywhere is an ordeal

Be ready to spend $25 on an uber to the mall...and $25 back

5. Need some shampoo? Be sure to carve at least an hour out of your schedule.

First you have to walk to the edge of campus where an uber can pick you up, then wait for the uber, get what you need from the store, wait for the uber again, and walk back to the center of campus

6. Forget going out to grab some food or to see a show

No one does that on a green college campus...frat parties are just about your only option

7. Just picked up some groceries?

Good luck dragging them all the way across campus

8.  Somehow you always get out of the shower right when there’s a group of people congregating in the hallway

9. Ordering food?

You might as well just walk to the restaurant because you're going to have to walk to the edge of campus anyway to pick it up because the delivery person can't drive onto the campus greenery

10. We all may have a lot of complaints about traditional college life, but....

the camaraderie of a green college campus seems to outweigh all of the cons

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

19 Lessons I'll Never Forget from Growing Up In a Small Town

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
