Between the stress from schoolwork and pressure to get into a good school, along with the awkward social aspect, my high school experience was a long drag that is honestly all just a blur now. Towards the end of my senior year, I did nothing but look forward to going to college, including living a life away from my hometown (a whole 20 minutes) and meeting new people. Now that my first semester of college is over, I've had some time to reflect on all the ways college is better than high school.
You have complete independence
With college comes a great deal of responsibilities. No one will be there to nag you to get your work done or force you to follow a schedule. This means that you are able to get work done according to your abilities and priorities. After all, you know yourself best.
You get to meet new people
There are numerous ways to meet new people in college: move-in day, classes, parties, through mutual friends and so on. Every day on campus, I see a hundred new faces-it's a refreshing change from seeing the same faces every day in the halls of school for four years straight.
There are no rules
High school puts so many restrictions on students. There's a ridiculous dress code, a no phone policy, and you can't even use the bathroom when you need to. In college, those restrictions don't exist; the sole focus is on your education.
You get to study what you want
Hopefully, you're going to college for something you love, or at least like. Personally, I hate math and science, and in college, I have the opportunity to take as many english and history classes as I'd like. I haven't done math in almost a year now, and I'm thriving.
If you're struggling in high school right now, keep in mind that things are about to get way better.
